Check Out My Work!

Journalism/News Articles

Below you will find links to news articles I edited while working as an Editorial Intern for Thesocialtalks. Although I edited forty articles in total, to avoid too much repetition, I have selected twenty to showcase here. There is a wide variety of genres as well as documents with and without notes to the author. The final version of each article is attached at the end of each document as well. Articles were written by three different authors, and can also be found on Thesocialtalks.com

Editing

Creative Writing Piece

This past winter, I had the privilege of editing the work of UCSB Raab scholar Ash Phommasa. She created an incredible zine titled “A Life Worth Living,” which centers around understanding and healing from trauma. Here, you will find my edits on her first draft and second draft, my notes to her, and her final draft. In between each draft, we also met via zoom to discuss all of my comments and suggestions. The notes provided here are an example of some of my most complex editing work, as I had to balance my edits and suggestions with her authorial voice and style. Ash’s piece is incredible, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Creative Writing Piece

During the fall of my junior year, I had the chance to create a personal narrative/memoir accompanied by a collection of poems with the intention of illustrating my personal experiences with climate change while navigating my own life from the time I was a young girl into the present as a 21-year-old college student. This piece is titled “Humanatee,” and it is by far the most fun and impactful writing piece I’ve worked on over the course of my undergraduate career. It is quite a bit longer than other pieces in my portfolio, so feel free to read as little or as much of it as you’d like!

Blog Articles

While working as the Manager and Editor of The Women’s Network UCSB, I had so much fun writing blog and news articles on a variety of topics, two of which I have linked below. This role and these articles served as a gateway into the fast-paced, investigative nature of news writing!
